Occasionally, one water supply needs to be separated from another,
but heat needs to be transferred between the two. Also,
if a steam system is present and desired as the heat source
for a hot water heat delivery system, then in these situations,
TrueLeaf’s engineers will provide a heat exchanger.
We provide heat exchangers
in four styles:
Brazed Plate Heat Exchangers:
These are very compact and cost effective units that
can provide an amazing amount of energy transfer in a
very small package. Imagine a few hundred thousand
BTU’s coming from a unit the size of a cigar box! Embossed plates of
stainless steel are attached together forming counter-flowing water passages,
supply and return connections are provided for each “side”.
Plate and Frame Heat Exchangers:
Similar in concept and
design, these heat exchangers are “rack” style units that can be custom-assembled
to match specific project needs. Individual embossed “plates” are
bolted together on a “frame” to provide an
optimized heat transfer solution that is also expandable
as needs change.
Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers:
These are the most “conventional” greenhouse
heat exchangers we offer. Typically, we’ll use
these in steam to water applications. The steam is dispersed
into the “shell”, which is a cast iron,
bullet-shaped vessel. Bolted into the end are the “tubes”,
which are typically copper. These tubes are where your
heating system water circulates to pick up the heat
being extracted from the steam.
The “Eliminator” (Coil-in-Tank
Heat Exchangers):
We provide these a lot for irrigation preheating loads.
A tank is providedwhich has an integral “coil”
that is typically used for circulating water from your
greenhouse central heating system. The heat from this
coil is imparted into the tank and then stored. Heated
water is then delivered directly to your plants in the
form of warm irrigation. Sometimes we’ll store
very warm water in the tank (160° or more) and,
using an automatic tempering valve, we’ll “mix”
it with cold fresh water to deliver the optimum desired
temperature to your plants. This way, we can store a
tremendous amount of energy in a smaller tank.
