I’ve known for some time,
based on all the research done regarding bottom heat,
that it is the right way to
give plants that initial growth and root development.
I started with electric heat and suffered through all
the issues with it. About 10 years ago I discovered the
BioTherm MicroClimate bench heat from TrueLeaf and today
that same system is providing all the
benefits that I expected from it.
Dave Blattner of The Growing
Place has been using the same BioTherm system for
the last 10 years.
His
operation provides plants for two company owned retail
centers in the greater Chicago land area. In the one
center there are only two greenhouses, while at the
Aurora
facility, Dave has 15 greenhouses. They offer a wide
variety of plants and all are sold at retail. Thus
the end customer is
the ultimate judge of what constitutes a quality product.
His business
relies upon repeat customers who have many options
in the area and the importance
of having hardy plants which survive the climate
extremes of the Chicago spring/summer
is a major
factor in being able to continue to have those customers
return spring after spring.

The BioTherm system has been trouble
free. Dave pays attention to good maintenance and the
system looks and functions as well as it did when installed
10 years ago.
He is growing his product right on
the tubes and indicates that the ability to have the
even heat distribution
across the bench has been a major factor in keeping his
product uniform and healthy.
He indicated that he checks
the water characteristics using the TrueLeaf water
testing kit each week and
adds treatment if needed.
Dave indicated that his return on his investment
is almost immeasurable since the system continues
to
provide the benefits with minimal additional expense.
When asked if he would recommend the BioTherm MicroClimate
System to other growers, Dave responded with “I
have no hesitation in recommending the product. If
all products performed
as well as BioTherm, I wouldn’t know what to
do with my spare time.”
