Metrolina Greenhouses, located in Huntersville, NC, is known throughout the industry as using the latest in greenhouse technologies to improve their efficiency and maintaining the highest plant quality. As they began updating and expanding their facility with open roof greenhouses, they realized that they now had a much more dynamic and flexible greenhouse environment. Flexibility is good, but one challenge with adding more growing tools is that it usually means a more complex and quicker changing growing environment.

When Metrolina started researching the replacement of their outdated environmental controls in 2001, TrueLeaf Technologies proposed that they look at Argus Controls.
With the quantity and the complexity of growing areas Argus Controls was the obvious choice.

  

Les Evans, TrueLeaf’s Regional Field Advisor, surveyed the control needs and coordinated a comprehensive proposal for the various phases of the entire system.

The installation of the controls was handled by Metrolina’s own crews. With the aid of detailed schematics and some on site supervision, the installation went smoothly.
The controls were installed first into the newer glass open roof staging areas, and then phased into the finishing and propagation areas. The total area now controlled with Argus is over 70 acres and the greenhouses range from traditional double poly gutter connected to the newest Venlo style, glass open roof.
Everyone from the head grower to the individual zone growers enjoy the flexibility of the Argus Controls system.
The common theme is simply that Argus adapts to the way the growers do things instead of having to do things the way the computer allows it. Growers appreciate the ease of seeing exactly what is going on at any given instant as well as the reporting of what has already happened. If settings are to be changed, then these are done quickly and smoothly, and there is direct feedback that the changes took place.
